Newport Beach was incorporated in 1906 and is located in Orange County, California. Newport Harbor, Newport Bay, and Balboa Peninsula are all located within Newport Beach. The population of Newport Beach is approximately 85,000 people. Newport Beach is located half-way between Los Angeles and San Diego. There is one stand alone middle school; Ensign Intermediate School. The second middle school is part of the Corona del mar Intermediate and High School. The second high school in the city is Newport Harbor High School. There are also quite a few private schools in the area as well. They are California Pacific Charter Schools, Carden Hall Inc, Christ by Sea Um Children’s Center, Newport Christian School, Newport Montessori School, Our Lady Queen of Angels School, Sage Hill School, St. Matthews Montessori School, St. Andrews Presbyterian Preschool, The Susan Phillips Day School and Tutor Time Learning Center.
With exceptional year around weather, there are many outdoor recreational activities to take part in. There is biking, hiking and walking trails and amazing bird watching at the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Preserve. The Crystal Cove State Park is an Official California State Park. This park encompasses 3.2 miles and is located between the Pacific Coastline and the Pacific Coast Highway. The Crystal Cove State Park has horseback riding, mountain biking and camping, among many other outdoor activities. There are several golf courses throughout Newport Beach. There is world class surfing at the “Wedge.”
